INITIUM –The Entrepreneurship Cell of Mount Carmel College

Entrepreneurship is a key driver of our economy. Wealth and a high majority of jobs are created by small businesses started by entrepreneurially minded individuals, many of whom go on to create big businesses. People exposed to entrepreneurship frequently express that they have more opportunity to exercise creative freedoms, higher self-esteem, and an overall greater sense of control over their own lives.

The Entrepreneurship cell works keeping the following OBJECTIVES in mind –

  • Break the myth that entrepreneurship is what others do
  • Inculcate in students the spirit and culture of entrepreneurship
  • Enable students to start and manage their own small business units
  • To create an environment providing diverse opportunities for growth and development as entrepreneurs and as competent professionals
  • To pioneer the culture of Entrepreneurship in Mount Carmel College

Initium uses the three-step approach –

Step 1- The Ideation Stage

Organizing Entrepreneur talks, Panel discussions & Webinars, etc-

Under this-

  • Entrepreneur Talks on a regular basis
  • Interview sessions with Startup companies
  • Regular webinar sessions conducted by NEN

Stage 2 – The Mentoring Stage

The student’s ideas go through a mentoring stage. The students are mentored by eminent entrepreneurs for a fixed period of time.

Step-3 – The Internship Stage

The Entrepreneurship cell is committed to engaging with the community . This is done through the MEDC and the MCC Santhe.

The main aim of MEDC (Mentoring & Entrepreneurship Development Centre )

Vision of MEDC-

  • Aim to focus its attention on students entrepreneurial skills
  • To give a holistic and professional approach to entrepreneurship
  • To mentor the start-up entrepreneurs and provide a platform for their  sustainability

Mission of MEDC-

  • Initium aims to build a network of entrepreneurs
  • With the developed networks- help  to extend the support system toward economic and social priorities
  • Be instrumental in offering community entrepreneurs and student entrepreneurs with business consultancy  and mentoring services and providing expertise to small and medium-sized business enterprises( MSMES)


  • To set up the incubation and development centre for the outgoing students and startup companies
  • To create awareness of entrepreneurship
  • Conduct seminars and workshops in consultation with experts in  related fields
  • To provides the full-range of mentoring services like working on Business Plan & Business Models, marketing Strategies and Financial planning and execution

Collaborations and Achievements –

Initium collaborates with NEN-WF (National Entrepreneurship Network-Wadhwani Foundation). NEN-WF collaborates with 500 + institutions across the country.

The National Entrepreneurship Network (NEN) is Wadhwani Foundation’s flagship initiative in India. It was established in 2003 with a mission to inspire, educate and support high potential entrepreneurs while driving entrepreneurship as a catalyst to create millions of high-value jobs. NEN does this by building institutional capacity for entrepreneur support and a robust entrepreneurial eco-system. It was co-founded with IIT Bombay, IIM Ahmedabad, BITS Pilani, SP Jain Institute of Management and Research and the Institute of Bioinformatics and Applied Biotechnology.

Mount Carmel College has been in the network since the last 10 years and has always been in the forefront pioneering entrepreneurship activities on and off-campus.

 Mount Carmel College has always been a winner at National level competitions winning Championships year after year.
