Addressing to the growing need for professionals in the domain of Public Policy & Governance, the Department of Economics & Public Policy launched BA Public Policy & Governance – Single discipline 3 year UG program as per the program grid proposed by the Karnataka Higher Education Council.
The Bachelor of Arts in Public Policy & Governance programme is professional degree programme designed to create talented professionals who are well-equipped to engage in the complex arena of public affairs in India. It will provide a firm understanding of the fundamentals of public policy, governance, economic reasoning and enable participants to apply them in their professional lives. The programme is also designed to help participants become more engaged in the policy making process, as policy analysts, bureaucrats, as public leaders, officials, public relations specialists, or indeed, as active citizens. The programme equips students with the knowledge of policy making process and governance in India and the factors that influence it.
To make the programme effective in terms of execution, the Department has collaborated with Insights IAS Academy, who have redefined and simplified the way aspirants prepare for UPSC Civil Services Exam.
Program Outcomes
- PO1 – Prepare students for career as professional policy analysts, government agencies, personal staff of elected representatives, consulting firms, corporate, non-governmental organizations and other agencies involved in public affairs.
- PO2 – Enable students to engage in public policy and become public leaders in their chosen domain. This involves participants acquiring a range of skills that will help them to actively participate and influence the government and policy makers in formulating and implementing the right policies for India.
- PO3 – Program aims to create engaged citizens of the country, who can actively participate in the democratic process of the country as policy makers, public leaders, analysts, bureaucrats, government officials or as public relation specialists.
- PO4 – To facilitate training for students appearing for civil services exam.

Policy Advisor/Analyst:
- Graduates can find roles as policy advisors or analysts at international organizations like the OECD or EU, national ministries, regional authorities, or city governments.
Strategic Consultant:
- Graduates can work as strategic consultants at consulting firms, advising on public sector and governance-related issues.
Public Affairs Manager:
- Graduates can take on public affairs management roles in large companies, banks, or other private sector organizations.
Government Roles:
- Graduates can pursue careers in the public sector, such as Civil Services, legislative aides, advisors in government etc.
Non-Profit and NGO Roles:
- Graduates can find roles in non-profit organizations, charities, and non-governmental organizations working on policy, advocacy, and community development.
Research and Analysis:
- Graduates can work as researchers, data analysts, or social researchers in think tanks, research consultancies, or government agencies.
Journalism and Communications:
