MCC
Established in 1948, Mount Carmel College (MCC), Autonomous, is a premier institution of higher education situated in the heart of Bengaluru. Managed by the Carmelite Sisters of St. Teresa (CSST), the college has successfully evolved from its storied history as a leading women’s institution into a vibrant, co-educational hub of academic excellence.
Recognized as a “College with Potential for Excellence” by the UGC and re-accredited with an A+ Grade (5th Cycle) by NAAC, MCC remains a benchmark for quality education in India. Across its sprawling 19-acre green campus, the institution serves as a dynamic crucible for over 10,000 students across a diverse range of disciplines. Guided by the foundational vision of a “Civilization of Love,” Mount Carmel College seamlessly blends contemporary, industry-relevant curricula with a 75-year legacy of producing global leaders, innovative entrepreneurs, and impactful change-makers.
About the Department
Established in 1948, the prime objective of the Department of Economics & Public Policy is to give a sound foundation in economic theory and application, which would enable students to apply their knowledge to decode real world economic problems. The Department, a recognized Research Center since 2016, aims to facilitate and equip students to be future agents of change in research, policy making, analytics, advisory and consultancy services, and much more.
About the Conference
The recent rationalisation of GST rates, approved in the 56th GST Council Meeting in September 2025 under the chairpersonship of Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, marks a significant reform in India’s indirect tax framework. Popularly referred to as GST 2.0, the reform simplifies the earlier four-tax slab structure (5%, 12%, 18%, and 28%) into a two-slab system of 5% and 18%. The changes aim to make the “one nation, one indirect tax” system more citizen-centric while providing tax relief during the festive season. The reform is expected to enhance disposable income, stimulate consumption, and encourage investment across sectors. The conference seeks to decode the intricate nexus between modern indirect taxation and the diverse pillars of the Indian economy. From the transformative role of AI and Automation in tax compliance to the profound spillovers on the social sector, MSMEs, and the green economy, the conference offers a holistic lens on India’s evolving fiscal identity.
