Inclusive and Equitable Education:Perspectives & Practices
MCC
Mount Carmel College is the forerunner of holistic education, envisioning the transformation of students into change agents. We focus on providing students with a conducive environment that is merged with state-of-the-art facilities and learned faculty and seek to humanise each student to participate in society as a responsible citizen, dynamic professional, and empathetic human being. Our visionary endeavour, envisaged and promoted by our founders, Mother Teresa of St. Rose of Lima, is to bask in the light of a “civilization of love”, by imparting knowledge and empathy among the young. Having successfully completed five cycles of NAAC accreditation, MCC offers over 65 UG and PG programs catering to over 9000 students. The journey since 1948 is a journey of ‘Empowering through Education’ which has impacted thousands of young minds.

The emphasis will continue to remain on cultivating a college-community interface, thereby extending the impulse of knowledge and culture of social conscientiousness
India is a diverse country and education plays a crucial role in achieving social and economic equality. In compliance with the mandate of New Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and implementation of UGC (Promotion of Equity in Higher Educational Institutions) Regulations 2012, Mount Carmel College has established an Equal Opportunity Cell (EOC). It is responsible for providing students, teaching and non-teaching staff members who belong to disadvantage groups including Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), Other Backward Classes (OBCs), women, minorities and people with disabilities, with equal, inclusive, non-discriminatory and unbiased opportunities. In addition to ensure that all members of the Disadvantage Groups have equal access to higher education at the college and opportunities for advancement in society, the Equal Opportunity Cell (EOC) will operate as an independent entity and protect the rights, dignity, safety and security that are guaranteed by the constitution.
About the Conference:
National Education Policy 2020 emphasizes that children with disabilities should be able to fully participate in the regular schooling process from the Foundational Stage to Higher Education. The Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPwD) Act, 2016 defines inclusive education as a system of education where in students with and without disabilities learn together and the system of teaching and learning is suitably adapted to meet the learning needs of different types of students with disabilities. The Policy suggest various curricular and pedagogical aspects to develop awareness among the students, teachers, teacher educators and community people for sensitizing them towards quality education and inclusive society.
