About the Program

A three years UGC Sponsored Degree, Bachelor of Vocation in Data Science &Analytics is offered by the Department of Statistics and Analytics. In this program students are skilled as per NSQF requirement.

Data science relies on the simultaneous application of statistics, computer programming and operations research to quantify performance. Analytics is concerned with turning Data into insights for making better decisions. Organizations may apply analytics to business data to describe and improve business performance. And, in today’s world there is no aspect of either business or technology that can stand on its own without Analytics.

The course is designed with inputs from Industry leaders to provide a broad spectrum of study and understanding.

These courses are spread across in a way to enhance the knowledge of students in a phased and logical manner. Subjects under Core and Programming Skills are handled by Industry Experts and the skill component is complemented by exposing students to hands-on sessions in the lab.

General Structure

As a part of the course, the students will learn:
1. Basic Skills

Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Principles of Finance, Business Communication, Business Environment.

2. Core Skills

Econometrics, Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence, Data Mining, Data Visualization, Digital Marketing and Analytics, Applications of Analytics in Finance, FMCG and Retail, Healthcare and Pharma.

3. Programming Skills

MS Excel, C, R, SAS, Python, MySQL and Tableau.

Program Requirements

Any student who passed 10+2 with an aggregate of 60% with Mathematics/Statistics as one of the subject in Pre-University or equivalent course is eligible to take up this course.

Testing and Evaluation

  • Semesters I to IV – 5 papers each
  • Semester V – 4 papers and project
  • Semester VI – 3 papers and project

Most of the papers are handled by guest/visiting faculty from organisations like Dell, Accenture, Genpact, etc.

Papers like Econometrics, Data Visualization, Data Mining, DBMS, Analytics for Healthcare, Retail, BFSI, etc. are taught as a combination of classroom lectures and lab sessions. The assessment for the same involves a component which has to be answered using software.

Each paper carries 100 marks – End Semester Examination – 50 marks and Continuous Internal Assessment – 50 marks.

The students are continuously assessed throughout a semester through presentations, quizzes, assignments, etc.

Careers and Highlights

The students are provided with an opportunity to intern in different companies. The program equips the students with enough tools to make a mark as an Analyst/ Data Scientist. The program enables the student to be an industry-ready person at the end of three years.

Our students get placed in companies like Nielsen, Ernst and Young, Ducker Worldwide, Global Solutions, JP Morgan and Chase, etc.
