About the Program
For the first time, the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), which monitors teacher training, has granted permission to two colleges in Bengaluru to initiate a four-year integrated B.A.-B.Ed. and B.Sc.-B.Ed. programmes under Section 14(3) (a) of the NCTE Act.1993. Mount Carmel College, Autonomous is one of them. The programme is approved by NCTE and Government of Karnataka. It is further designed according to UGC and NCTE guidelines to maintain the quality of education imparted by students.
The programme is also, affiliated to Bengaluru Central University.

The programme is specially designed with an objective to develop an understanding of the teaching-learning process at secondary school levels among student educators. It focuses on enabling student-teachers to reflect critically on perspectives of education and integrate holistically the theory and practices to facilitate active engagement of learners for better learning and knowledge creation.

The four-year Integrated B.Sc.-B.Ed. program is based on Choice based credit system (CBCS). The program will be of four years duration organized based on semester scheme with two semesters in a year. It has been designed to impart theoretical knowledge and practical skills to students in different disciplines of Science (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Botany, Zoology) and empower them with problem solving skills. At the end of four years students complete their graduation both in Science and in Education. It saves one year for the students.
The programme offers a wide range of electives to cater to the needs of student-educators. Enhancing professional Capacities (EPC) courses are introduced for personality development and to provide knowledge of ICT. Foundation, skill development and Interdisciplinary courses are part of the programme to enable student-educators to acquire an all-round personality and the necessary skills of a secondary school teacher. The program is bettered for practical adeptness with a twenty-week internship programme including four-week observation in schools to provide real experiences.
During these four years, the students get hands-on experience by observing real life classroom teaching and excelling in the same during their internship period. Functional English is taught to enhance the communication skills of the learners.

Eligibility:
The basic eligibility criteria for admission to these programmes is a pass in the Pre-University examination of Karnataka/ CBSE Senior Secondary examination/ or an equivalent examination with 60% marks.
Candidates applying for B.Sc.- B.Ed. programme must have studied all the three disciplinary subjects at the PUC /10+2 level.
