The department of Hindi was established in the year 1948 under the able leadership of the Late. Dr. Sr. Clement Mary.
Since its inception, the department has always witnessed large number of students learning the language with great interest. Bangalore being a cosmopolitan city has students’ inflow from various parts of the country and the department consistently works on its syllabus upgradation in terms of both students’ need in terms market demands. The syllabus designed also caters to preserve the rich literary heritage of the language. Hindi being the third largest spoken language in the world is in great demand hence applicative and functional Hindi is taught as a part of the curriculum.
The language is offered for the First and second year students of B.A, B.Sc, B.Com and BBA.
Vision
The department of Hindi envisions holistic education that would empower women to be the agents of transformation at a global level and enable them to create a socially responsible global community working towards ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’.

- Promote national integration, inter-cultural harmony and brotherhood.
- Promote the language as an effective tool towards nation building.
- Develop awareness about the essence of other Indian languages through translation methodology.

- Online guest lecture series on account of Azadi ka Amrutmahotsav
1. Guest lecture by Prof. Harish Arora, Renowned Author and Prof. in Hindi, PGDAV college (Evening) on ‘Samkaleen Hindi sahitya aur rashtriyata’ on 16.08.2022.
2. Guest lecture by Dr.Mahendra Bheeshm, renowned author and Senior advocate on ‘Kinnar Vimarsh’ on 23.08.2022.
3. Guest lecture by Prof. Sunil Tiwari, renowned journalist and Prof. in Hindi, Shahid Bhagat Singh College, New Delhi on “Patrakarita: raashtra hit ka sashakt madhyam” on 27.08.2022.
4. Guest lecture by Prof. Ganesh Pawar, Prof. in Hindi, Central University of karnataka on “Samakaleen Hindi sahitya mein Dalit evam aadivasi vimarsh’ on 29.08.2022. - Malhaar 22’ the intercollegiate program held to celebrate Hindi Diwas and 75 years of the department.
- A Two-day National Conference sponsored by Bharatiya Bhasha Samiti, Ministry of Education, Govt. of India on ‘ Vaishvik Pariprekshya mein bhaartiya bhashayen aur rashtriya ekta’ on 23.02.2023 and 24.02.2023.

- • Online one -day international webinar conducted in collaboration with Mahatma Gandhi Antarrashtriya Hindi Vishwavidyalay, Wardha on 25.09.2021.

- Online Two-day webinar conducted in collaboration with TLC Ramanujan College, MHRD, Govt. of India on ‘ Media aur cinema ka badaltaa paridrushya’ 0n 14.08.2020 and 15.08.2020.
- Online two-week faculty development program in collaboration with TLC Ramanujan College, MHRD, Govt. of India from 26.12.2020 to 09.01.2021.
2019 – 20
- ‘Malhaar 19’ the celebration of Hindi Diwas on 13.09.2018. Guest lecture by Dr.Rakesh Shukla, Assistant prof in Hindi, Mahatma Gandhi Antarrashtriya Hindi Vishwavidyalay, Wardha.
- Guest lecture by renowned Dalit writer Dr. Susheela Takbhoure on her novel ‘Neela Akash’ on 24.02.2020 & 25.02.2020.
2018 – 19
- Guest lecture and workshop on Origamy as a tool of expression by Limca book of records holder Mr.V. Shivshankar Shastry on 26.06.2018.
- Malhaar 18’ the celebration of Hindi Diwas on 14.09.2018. Guest lecture by Sri Ajit Acharya, VDM, India on move.
- International Conference conducted on the topic, “Pravasi Hindi Sahitya aur hindi bhasha kaa mahatwa” on 07.01.2019 & 08.01.2019.
- All the five faculty members are Ph.D holders.
- Two members with NET, SLET.
- One faculty member with Post doctorate fellowship.
- Two faculty members certified in translation studies.
- One professional translator from Hindi to English.
- Department members have designed its own text books with ISBN numbers for students. So far we have designed eight text books after the launch of NEP.
