M.Sc – Psychology
Overview
The Masters of Science in Psychology is a two-year rigorous programme that offers a curriculum equipped to instil students with the prowess and acumen of Psychology. This programme has been designed to ensure that every student is able to nurture their academic interest in psychology, along with their personal growth and awareness. On acquiring knowledge of the qualitative and quantitative techniques as well as gaining an in-depth understanding of the field, Graduates of this degree will be able to demonstrate their skills in Counselling, Research and Organizational Behaviour, etc. The Curricular and Extracurricular activities are designed in a way to ensure that the students receive a holistic understanding through the curriculum.

Program Objective

- To ensure a multi-dimensional approach to academic learning and assessment through presentations, projects, seminars, internships and case conferences.

Activities of the Department
- Department organizes guest lectures, seminars and workshops for the students, these events are pertinent to the subject matter.
- Education tours – experiential learning and team building.
- Visit to research labs and the ‘Brain Museum’.
- Students are encouraged to attend seminars, workshops and webinars, and intercollegiate competitions.
- Students are also encouraged to make presentations in class on subject related topics.
- Assessment cell – Personality, IQ, EQ, Aptitude, Interest and well-being are looked into.
- Counseling and consultation – for students, staff, support staff, parents and organizations.
- Awareness drive/programs on social issues.
- Short films and videos on related subjects.
- Role plays and skits to explain concepts in psychology.
- Internships in Industry, Special schools and Hospice and/or half-way homes.

- Annual Newsletter on Psychology is printed and circulated.
- PG students also participate in a group discussion of current events (related to psychology) once a week for one hour.
- PG students are a part of the Journal Club wherein they participate in interactive sessions and look into enriching journal articles to stay up-to-date with the field.

- UG Students’ participation in Positive Psychology Unit of NIMHANS.
- UG Students’ involvement in Child Guidance Centers and Special Schools.
- PG students’ compulsorily internship of 4-6 weeks in Recruitment and Consultancy Firms, Counselling Centers, Special schools and Neuro-centers.
Department Fest
- Annual intra-department fest is organized, wherein the department newsletter is released, papers are presented and various inter class competitions are held.
Teaching techniques adopted to cater to the diverse student needs
- Remedial classes are arranged after college hours. Previous years’ question papers are given to the students, and they are encouraged to answer them.
Individual counseling and confidence boosting sessions are given to the students who are underachieving. - Gifted students are encouraged to participate in inter-collegiate competitions, present papers in seminars, and participate in department research activities. Academically bright students are encouraged to help the underachievers in academics.
Highlights extension activities
- Faculty and students are associated with the activities of Positive Psychology Unit of NIMHANS.
- Personality and IQ assessment are carried out in schools that approach us.
- Life skills training is given to students in schools that approach us.
- Headstreams – Students intern in Headstreams, an NGO which works with children from the lower economic status for either 6-month programs or their summer internship.
- MCC Outreach Program: Students stay back after college every day from 3 – 4 p.m. to play/ educate the children of construction workers.
- PG students are part of the counselling and assessment cell which caters to counselling and the assessment of college students as well as school children in the neighborhood.
- PG students also participate in group discussions on current events (related to psychology) once a week for one hour.
- PG students are also, part of the Journal Club wherein they read journal articles followed by a discussion.
- Students (PG and UG) are guided to present research papers in seminars and conferences.
- They are encouraged to conduct workshops on personality development and softs skills training for school children.
