M.A. IN PUBLIC POLICY

MOUNT CARMEL COLLEGE

MA PUBLIC POLICY
Offered by the Department of Economics

MA Public Policy is an interdisciplinary PG Program offered by the Department of Economics in collaboration with the Department of Political Science and Journalism. The making and implementation of public policy is a complex challenging task, more so in a large, populous and diverse nation like India. Public policy in India has been marked by failures due to multiple reasons and we seem to have a problem formulating and implementing the right policy. The evolution of the Indian state and economy makes it the necessity of our times to build awareness about public policy and create a professional generation of public policy makers.

MA- Public Policy offered by Mount Carmel College is apt at a time when involvement of the public in policy making is increasing. Through the program, we hope to open up the exciting world of Government and policy making to the generation which can take up the task of formulating and implementing the right policies for India.

The program started in 2016 is highly interdisciplinary in nature and the reason for this is policy making is not a mere political act; it needs to be based on social needs, have an economic rationale and an understanding of the historical background. The curriculum opens up the students to the exciting world of policy making with an economic, political and social perspective. It is indeed the “engineering program” of humanities or social science in action.

The program will prepare students for career as professional policy analysts, government agencies, personal staff of elected representatives, consulting firms, corporate and nongovernmental organizations.
