2022 - 23
  • Event name: “The big bang theory” Novato’s ‘22- Fresher’s day on 29/08/22
  • Description: The event consist of three round
  1. Round 1→ Quizzing fun-general chemistry questions. 
  2. Round 2→ Game of Pictionary
  3. Round 3→ King’s game + Tie breaker game.
  • Event: “Evaluating Ayurvedic knowledge through Modern Tools & Technologies” on 23/09/22
  • Description: As part of student enrichment program, the Department of Chemistry organized a program for the students of UG and PG Chemistry. The guest speaker Dr. Beena Bhat, Executive Vice President-Research, Sami-Sabinsa Group, Bengaluru, discussed the latest tools & technologies used to extract phytochemicals that are pharmacologically important. During her lecture, she explained how research-driven or market-driven products are developed. Moreover, her presentation helped students understand how important chemistry is in drug discovery. Responses were overwhelmingly positive.
  • Event : “The Royalty Test ” Academicia‘22- Vedashtra on 28/09/22
2021 - 22
  • Event: Quiz Competition, World Environment Day 2021 on 5th June 2021
  • Description: On world environment day, that is celebrated on 5th June every year, we department of chemistry conducted a Quiz for students. The purpose of the Quiz was to remind students about the importance of nature and spread awareness, about the threat to the environment. COVID-19 has also shown, just how disastrous the consequences of ecosystem loss can be as we have created ideal conditions for pathogens like coronaviruses to spread. We received 41 responses from students, belonging from both PG and UG departments. According to the responses, the average score of everyone was 85.4%. Overall, it was a successful event.
  • Event: “Insights to Competitive Exams for Chemistry Post Graduates” on 5th July 2021
  • RESOURCE PERSON: Dr. Vinayak Kamat, Coordinator, NET/KSET Coaching, School of Chemistry, Dharwad, Karnataka.
  • Description: The purpose of the event was to improve PG Chemistry students’ chances of qualifying NET and GATE exams. As a resource, the speaker has qualified for the JRF and GATE exams multiple times. He shared his experiences with the students and also discussed various exam preparation tips and strategies.
  • Event Details: On 21st Aug 2021, we hosted a webinar on the topic ‘Periodic Table and Modern Challenges of Chemistry’ by Prof. Suman Mukhopadhyay (Discipline of Chemistry, IIT Indore). The event was open for all UG students who keep interest in the subject chemistry. We received a great response from all years of UG students especially from the freshers. Overall, it was a successful event.
  • Event: “Food Adulteration & its Health Impact” on 22nd September 2021
  • Description : As part of Nutrition month, the department of Chemistry conducted an awareness program on “Food Adulteration & its Health Impact”. In this activity, student volunteers demonstrated different tests to determine adulterants and explained the consequences.
  • Event: Academicia: Stoicheia 2021, Elements Around Us on 12th October 2021
  • Description: For the first time ever, Mount Carmel College hosted an inter-collegiate academic fest. We department of chemistry organized a fun and interesting game event in which the participants were given elements on the spot and were told to look for the same. This event was held oline on MS Teams. The event went smooth. The winners were given e-certificates along with a gift voucher. The rest received participation certificates.
  • Event: Science Week’21 (“Prathibimb- Ayushi”), Fun with Chemistry on 29th Oct, 2021.
  • Description : We department of chemistry organized our very first offline event celebrating Science Week’21 in Mount Carmel College. This event had us show casing some fun and interesting experiments keeping safety in mind. The experiments we performed on how to make your own natural body cream, body butter, lip balm & perfume. Science experiments like Cabbage indicator experiment, Elephant toothpaste, Invisible ink, Magic color change and toothpaste making were shown with their chemistry. The event was successful as we received 49 feedback responses saying that our event was extremely organized, was interesting and informative.
  • Event: Cul-Week’ 21, ChemBingo on 9th Nov,2021
  • Description: On the first day of Cul-Week, we department of chemistry had our offline game event post-pandemic situation. We organized a game event ChemBingo. The bingo cards had names of common elements and compounds. We asked the participants around 25 questions about these elements/compounds and the player has to call out ‘Bingo’ once it has placed 5 markers in a row, either horizontally, vertically or diagonally. The first two people who call out bingo win the event. The event was played fairly and with fun.
  • Event: “Preparation of Multi-purpose liquid detergent” on 27th November 2021
  • Description: The Preparation was started at 10 am with approximately 40 students and 6 faculties. The students were divided into groups to perform the experiment and completed the preparation by 11 am. College stores received prepared liquid soap for future use.
  • Event: “Plastic Pollution and its Management” on 28th February 2022
  • Description: As part of celebrating National Science Day, the Department of Chemistry organized a program for the students of Mount Carmel Central School in Bengaluru to promote awareness about plastic pollution and its management.The presentation was given by Dr. N.S. Kaviyarasi, Assistant Professor of the Department, in which she discussed the facts and figures related to the presence of plastic pollutants in the environment and how they affect people and animals.Additionally, she taught the students how to identify plastic products on the market by their plastic resin identification codes, as well as the 5R strategy to reduce plastic waste through Refusing, Reducing, Reusing, Repurposing and Recycling.
  • Event: “How to be a successful student? & Scope and Career Opportunities in Chemistry” on 12th April 2022
  • Description: As part of student enrichment program, the Department of Chemistry organized a program for the students of final year UG and PGchemistry.Prof. Nirmala Vaz, PG HOD, Research Director, Department of Chemistry,Jyoti Nivas College, Bengaluru, delivered a talk to motivate the students with her success mantras for a successful life. She also enlightened our students about the various scopes and career opportunities in Chemistry.
  • Event: “Plastic waste management and its regulation in India” on 30th April 2022
  • Description: As part of student enrichment program, the Department of Chemistry organized a program for the students of 1styear UG and PG Chemistry. Ms. P. K. Selvi, Scientist D, CPCB, Bengaluru, delivered a talk to create awareness among the students about plastic waste and its management. She also enlightened our students about the various single use plastics and the government polices to control it.
2020 - 21
  • Event: Two-day webinar on “Higher Education in the 21st Century: Vision and Action in the Current Scenario”
  • Description : A two day webinar on “Higher Education in the 21stCentury: Vision and Action in the Current Scenario” was conducted by department of Chemistry on 5th and 6th June 2020. On day one Prof. (Dr.) A.K. Bakhshi,Vice-Chancellor, PDM University, Bahadurgarh, Haryana, covered all that is required for this field at today’s juncture such as pillars in teaching, essential quality in research, ICT, leaders in higher education and many more reforms need in education system in India. On 2ndday Dr. Geetharani K. Assistant Professor, Department of Inorganic and Physical Chemistry, Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru and Dr. Prakash Chandra Mondal, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry, Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur were addressing the participants about latest research improvements in their research area.
  • Event: Webinar on “Surfactants, Production and their Importance in day-to-day Life”
  • Description : Webinar on “Surfactants, Production and their Importance in day-to-day Life” by Dr. Keshav A.Bulbule, Consultant Project SP-32, E-ParisaraaPvt Ltd on 10th November 2020 at 10.30 am to 11. 30 am. A webinar was conducted for our PG Chemistry students; about 60 participants, including many of our staff members, took part in it and gave positive feedback.
  • Event: Fresher’s Day 2020, Retro Chemathon
  • Description : We had a webinar by Professor Balaji Rao Jagirdar, IISc titled “All that does not glitter is also gold”. It was a very informative and interesting talk about nanoparticles and color of gold in nano sizes. We had another meeting for our games after the talk. We had 2 rounds. 1st round was quiz, it had 10 questions. 2nd round was pick and speak. Winners: Maria Felicia- 1st position -BtCB (BSc). Annie -2nd position-BCom.A.Brinda-3rd position-CBZ(BSc).
  • Event: Elemingo on 25th September 2020
  • Description : Bingo, instead of numbers we have chemistry elements name. We asked questions whose answers will be name of the elements. The event went on well there were about 80 registrations for a WhatsApp group was created and there was a preliminary round day before the event the preliminary round had crossword chemistry puzzle based on basic chemistry topics and elements of periodic table 25 of them were selected and made up to Elemingo the event was organized via Microsoft teams the participants were sent their Elemingo cards and the event started with great vigor and excitement with active participation.
  • Event: EDUCATE on 1st March 2021
  • Description : A webinar on chemistry of cosmetics where students got to know about the chemistry behind the everyday cosmetics like perfume, lipsticks, and shampoo, which we use daily. This event was a fundraising event for the education of a girl child.
  • Event: Science Day, FUN WITH CHEMISTRY on 5th March 2021
  • Description : On Science week we conducted online event displaying fun chemistry experiments. The event was called fun with chemistry.
  • Event: Quiz
  • Description : We conducted a quiz along with math association for the PU students. We only framed questions for the quiz, rest they did. Screen shot of some framed questions.
  • Event: CULAH, Chemistry around us on 13th March 2021
  • Description : For Culah we conducted an offline called Chemistry Around You, which was a pictionary based event on chemistry surrounding us. We had 16 participants, We did 2 rounds, 1st round we did elimination, 9 people went to final round.
2019 - 20
  • The seminar titled “Quantum dots as sensitizers and probes for solar cell and sensing application” was organized for 300 students on 6th December 2019. The resource person Prof. Geetha Balakrishnan, Director CNMS, Jain University, Bengaluru, expounded about the quantum dots and their modifications by doping, to enhance the performance of sensitizers in solar cells. Furthermore the talk also focused the applications of probes in solar cells.
  • The seminar titled “Importance of Research in current scenario: quality vs. quantity” was organized for 300 students on 3rd January 2020. The resource person was Prof. GurumurthyHegde, Associate Professor and Prof. CNR Rao Chair Professor, B.M.S. College of Engineering, Bengaluru. He explained about research methodology and gave them tips to search literature for specific science topics. He explained about the importance of paper publication in peer-reviewed journal as per UGC norms.
  • Event: Exhibition
  • Description : National Science Day was celebrated on 28thFebruary 2020to commemorate the discovery of “Raman Effect”to showcase of few interesting experiments such as Elephant Toothpaste and Golden rain in Chemistry lab by the final year students.
  • Event: TRAINING PROGRAMME FOR STUDENTS
  • Description : Prathibimb- Dhatu commemorated 150 years of the Periodic Table of Elements. On this occasion, the Chemistry Association conducted a quiz on the Periodic Table. The prelims of the quiz were held on 19th August 2019 (Monday) from which the top 8 teams were selected for the finals which was held on Science Day.
2018 - 19
  • Industry- Academia Interface
  • Interaction of industrialists with students, conducted by Department of Chemistry on 11/01/2019 Mr. Durga Prasad, Asst Gen. Manager, Karnataka Antibiotics and Pharmaceuticals Ltd (KAPL), Bangalore.
  • Event: Exhibition
  • Science exhibition was conducted on 28th Feb, 2019 by department of Chemistry to commemorate the discovery of “Raman Effect”to showcase of few interesting experiments live dry ice experiment, How silver inhibited bacterial growth and spread on culture growing in petri plate, Upon flashing torch light on fluorescent strips, how they increase visibility in the dark, for all drivers in roads.
  • Event : “Laboratory Safety measures” on 5th March 2019
  • Resource person: Ms. Haseen, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry, Mount Carmel College, Autonomous, Bengaluru.
  • Description : Basic safety rules for laboratory conduct should be observed whenever working in a laboratory. Hence a lecture was conducted for the lab attenders by department of chemistry on “Laboratory Safety measures” The main objective of the talk is create awareness among the lab attenders about the most common safety rules followed in Science laboratory.
  • Event : “Laboratory Safety measures” on 6th March 2019
  • Resource person: Dr. Netravathi, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry, Mount Carmel College, Autonomous, Bengaluru.
  • Description : Basic safety rules for laboratory conduct should be observed whenever working in a laboratory. Hence a lecture was conducted for the undergraduate students by department of chemistry on “Laboratory Safety measures” The main objective of the talk is create awareness among the students about the most common safety rules followed in Science laboratory.
  • Event : Workshop in Biological and Physical sciences on 13th September 2019
  • Funding agency associated with: DBT Star College Program, Govt. of India
  • Description : The main objective of the workshop is to inculcate scientific temperament and research component in students to develop their independent critical thinking, as well as to facilitate learning with research modalities, to develop problem solving skills and to get hands on experience through instrumentation /experimentation.
  • PG lecture series: PG lecture series was conducted on 10th October 2019 by department of Chemistry for M.Sc., Chemistry students on topic “Understanding the Condensation reactions in Chemistry”. The speaker, Dr. S. Murugan conveyed the message that learning of chemistry is easy and not difficult as many people say. He gave a PowerPoint presentation on the basics of mechanism of various different condensation reactions and highlighted on how they can be related to each other. It was truly an eye opener to the students to approach the subject in a proper way as the students generally tend to learn chemistry by rote memory.
  • Event: FDP- Workshop on-“Microscale techniques in Chemistry” on 11th October 2019
  • Resource person: Dr. S. Murugan, Retired HOD of Chemistry, S. T. Hindu College, Nagercoil
  • Description : A one day workshop was conducted by department of chemistry on microscale techniques in analysis of chemical reactions in which Dr. Murugan gave hands on training on carrying out some important organic reactions in spot plates and semi-micro test tubes. Training was given on microscale preparations and titrations. It serves the following purposes. reducing the amount of chemicals used.

    • less hazardous to the teachers, students and lab assistants.
  • Event : “INSPIRE” (Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research) Science Camp on 22nd to 26th October 2018
  • Department of Chemistry organized “INSPIRE” (Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research) SCIENCE INTERNSHIP Camp, in association with the departments of Physics, Mathematics, Botany, Zoology and Electronics, from the 22nd to 26th of October 2018. Sixteen eminent speakers from reputed institutes addressed more than 200 students from 10 colleges in Bangalore. The programme was sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), and is being organized throughout the country to give PU students an opportunity to experience the thrill of invention, innovation and discovery.

Placement Policy & Guidelines for Students

The Placement Policy is applicable to all students registered with the Placement Cell of Mount Carmel College, Autonomous, and is to be followed during their entire tenure at the college.

  1. The Placement Officer & the Placement Coordinator are the facilitators and counsellors for placement related activities and will be responsible for all concerned activities & functioning of the Placement Cell.
  2. The Student Placement Committee will be assisting the Placement Officer & the Placement Coordinator in all activities related to placements.
  3. Neither the College nor the Placement Cell guarantees a job. The Placement Cell will facilitate and coordinate the placement activities on campus including bringing in companies, coordinating the recruitment drives, organizing recruitment training and other related activities leading to the successful placements of the deserving students.
  4. Applying for a company, getting recruited, joining a company is entirely the responsibility/decision of the student concerned.
  5. Opting to register for placements is completely the choice of the students. As some would want to pursue higher studies or other opportunities, such students can refrain from registering with the Placement Cell.
  6. Students are required to check the ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA for registering with the Placement Cell before registering.
  7. All final year students with an aggregate score of 60% and above and with NO ACTIVE BACKLOGS are eligible to register for placements.
  8. All registered students are required to MANDATORILY attend the recruitment training conducted by the Placement Cell and meet the necessary threshold of 75% attendance and 80% completion of the practice tests & assessments to qualify for applying to the cos. Failing to qualify may result in re-training of the student at an additional cost which is to be borne at actuals by the concerned student.
  9. The Placement Cell will notify all the registered students about the upcoming recruitment drives through mails and Whatsapp group notifications and not individually. The students are to be alert and keep a track of the notifications and apply as per their interest and eligibility.
  10. Once a student registers/enrolls for a particular company, she is expected to complete the entire recruitment process as relevant and required. Failing to do so, will result in the student being debarred from sitting for further recruitment drives. Exceptions will be made at the sole discretion of the Placement Cell only in genuine cases. Such cases/reasons to be formally communicated to the Placement Office over mail at least one day prior to the drive.
  11. The student has a choice not to participate in the recruitment process of a company after attending the Pre-Placement Talk. If she decides to continue, then she will be bound by the College Placement Policy to attend the rest of the recruitment process of the company as stated above.
  12. Students will not be allowed to participate in the selection process of a company for which she has missed the PPT.
  13. While the Placement Cell will do its due diligence and bring in the right companies, it is the responsibility of every student to check the company profile, eligibility, Job Profile and the Job Role before applying. The same will also be mailed and/or updated on the Notice Boards or social media groups.
    • Ex 1- If a company requires the applicant to have an average of 70%, be well assured that you meet the criteria before applying to that company.
    • Ex 2- If the company requires you to have NO standing arrears/backlogs at the time of attending the placement process, kindly DO NOT APPLY to the company if you do not meet this criterion.
  14. If, after being selected by a company, for some reason the student is not satisfied either with the pay, the timings, work allotted, etc during onboarding, she will need to take it up with the concerned within the company. The Placement Cell will not be able to intervene in internal matters. However, it is important that the students reach out to us in case there are major deviations from the terms mentioned by the company at the time of recruitment.
  15. A student can apply to as many companies as she wants and appear for interviews until the first job is secured. A student will be considered to have secured a job if her name appears in the final select list of a company.
  16. The Placement Office of MCC follows a strict “ONE OFFER PER STUDENT” Policy. However, if a student has been offered a job with a CTC less than or equal to INR 2 lakhs PA, she can opt to apply for ONE more company, subject to prior formal approval by the Placement Office.
  17. Once a student’s name appears in the final selects of a company, it is obligatory for the student to accept the offer. Rejecting offers is strictly not allowed. Defaulters will be required to submit a letter to the Principal along with a penalty fee which could be equivalent to one month’s salary being offered by the said company.
  18. Recruitment Process: All companies generally follow the following procedure (however they could be exceptions) –
    • Presentation about the company & Job Profile (Pre-Placement Talk)
    • Written Exam (Aptitude / Technical Test)
    • Group Discussion and/or Task (Assignments)
    • Interview (Technical/HR/Others)
    • Verification of Documents
    • Offer Letter
  19. Students are to strictly ensure the following for all recruitment drives:
    • Must report on time as mentioned in the schedules
    • Wear Business Formals for every recruitment process. Students wearing casuals during recruitment process will be sent back
    • Always carry one folder containing resumes (2-3 copies), passport size photos, copies of mark sheets, certificates & stationery
    • Compulsorily carry College & Govt. ID Cards
  20. Most companies require applicants to have Govt. ID – Aadhar & PAN. Hence it is advised for all students to apply for these before registering for placements.
    Students are not allowed to contact the Company / HR team directly for any reason through the recruitment process. In case of any issues or concerns, they are advised to contact their Placement Office and discuss their problems.
  21. Strict action will be taken against students found to be engaged in maligning the College or the Placement Office with the companies. Any grievances you may have, are to be brought to the notice of the of the Placement Officer for resolution.
  22. If a student makes any false claims in the Resume/Student Registration Form, her registration will be cancelled immediately and job offer if any, will be revoked.
  23. All companies conduct a thorough background check/verification. If the company finds that you have manipulated your marks / documents in any manner/or mis-represented any information, your job offer will be terminated, and your name will be blacklisted.
  24. Strict discipline needs to be followed by every student during the recruitment process. Any sort of indecent behavior/misbehavior which affects the decorum of the Placement Cell or the reputation of the College or the Company, will attract severe penalty and disqualification.
  25. Unless explicitly permitted by the companies, use of mobile phones is strictly prohibited during the recruitment process.
  26. Malpractice in all forms or marking proxies during the selection process and beyond, is strictly prohibited and those caught indulging in such activities would be debarred from the placement process. Also, note that no concessions in any form shall be made in such cases.
  27. It may happen that the campus recruitment process can stretch till late evenings. Students are required and prepared to be available accordingly. In case of off-line drives, students are to inform their parents and should arrange their own transportation.
  28. In case of virtual (online) recruitment drives, it is the responsibility of the students to ensure they have the necessary equipment (laptop/PC with functional webcam and mic) and sufficient internet bandwidth for seamless conduction of the process.
  29. Students are required to provide correct email IDs and contact numbers at the time of registration. These will be used for all communication from the Placement Cell and the recruiting companies. The onus is on the students to ensure the contact details provided are correct and up to date.
  30. Students are advised to check their mails regularly as all communication related to placements will be sent through mails.
  31. It is mandatory that once you receive an Intent Letter/Offer Letter from the Company, a copy must be submitted to the Placement Office. Failing which, the end semester examination Hall Ticket/results will be withheld.
  32. All students registered for placements will be bounded by the Attendance Policy of the College. Any exception to the above is permitted only through formal approval of the Placement Office and the respective Department Heads.

WE EXPECT OUR STUDENTS TO BE PROFESSIONAL AND UPHOLD THE VALUES OF THE COLLEGE AT ALL TIMES.

For all matters not covered in the above policy, the Placement Office will use its discretion to take appropriate decisions as and when required.

The above guidelines are to ensure a smooth process in the best interest of our students and the participating companies.

Eligibility

  • Students who have completed Two Years Pre-University Course of Karnataka or Equivalent thereto in Commerce or Science are eligible to seek Admission to B.Com – Fintech and Digital Banking Degree Program. Additionally, students should have studied Mathematics or Statistics or Computer Science at the Pre-University Level.

Eligibility

A candidate who has passed the B.Com/BBA/BBM/BBS honors (4 years) examination of Bengaluru City University or of any other university in India or abroad recognized as equivalent thereto and has secured not less than 50% marks in the aggregate in all the four years put together shall be eligible for admission to the programme. In the case of SC/ST and Category-I of Karnataka candidates, the minimum percentage of marks required shall be less by 5%.

A candidate who has completed II PUC or 12th Standard(CBSE/ISC), or an equivalent qualification, in Commerce from a recoznised board, is eligible for admission to the program.
