Overview

The Department of Interior Design Management was established in 2007 as a specialized branch to impart the students a holistic understanding of the subject giving substantial weightage to the core contents, skill, value-based and ability enhancement.

2023 - 24
Guest Lecture
  • The Department conducted a Guest Lecture on 9th August,2023, titled “Adapting to different work cultures in Interior Design Industry” by resource Person, Ms. Karol Amrita P, Four Dimensions, Bengaluru.
Workshop
  • The Department conducted a Workshop titled “Art in Interior Design”. The Resource Person was Ms. Meghna A, Trans-Disciplinary Artist. Topics covered: Hands on training on Sketching, different types of hatching, stippling, scribbling, blending and layering using pencils, water colour pencils, acrylics. Students created still life sketches of form- compositions using Light and Shade. Experimenting with mixed media.
    Site Visits
  • A visit to a residential construction site was conducted on 11th August, 2023. The aim was to make students understand various stages of building construction from start to end. This helps the student to understand the framed structure of a building, masonry works, and interior design development.
2022 - 23
Demonstration
  • A Demonstration “Material Magic” on interior design materials was arranged for IDM students on 24th August,2022 by Mr. Sagar Patel, of Designia, The interior lounge. He gave a demonstration of all the present day interior materials used by interior designers, the current trends in design using these materials and variety of colour and cost options associated with those materials. Mr. Sager also demonstrated how architectural film is applied on to interior surfaces easily. A touch and feel access to all the materials presented was very exciting for students.
Educational Trip
  • An educational visit to National Gallery of Modern Art, Bengaluru on 24th January, 2023; was looked upon by students with enthusiasm and anticipation. Art display in the museum provided insights on different artists, medium, techniques, and composition for art works to students. The students could understood different types of display modes, the lighting, ambience needed for display areas. The use of huge volume spaces in public areas to give a good sense of space and the colour combinations of the designed space that help in better display. Heritage building, space planning and the difference between contemporary architectural spaces vs heritage Indian buildings were notified. Also, how old heritage buildings can be made relevant today.
  • An educational visit to study and explore the Shillhandra resort located in Ramanagara was conducted on 20th Mar, 2023. Shilhaandara with Rock theme is designed considering the pride of Belur, Halebidu sculptures and also kingdoms of Chalukya, Maurya, Kadamba and Chola. The single monolithic rock of about 300 feet is the main attraction and is itself a back-drop for the entire Arts village. The students got to understand the different types of stay, the amenities provided under each tier of stay, the flow of function and ease of access to all the different amenities provided in the resort. The pre-requisites for all the necessary amenities while designing and the materials used in different areas were explored.
Career Guidance and Talks by Industry Experts
  • A talk was delivered by Ms. Swathi Vijaykumar, Interior Designer from Urban Works, Bengaluru, on 13th Jan, 2022. The topic was “Insights into Interior Design Industry” gave the students an insight into the challenges that are faced by interior designers and how to overcome those challenges, how to start off as a freelance designer, what career opportunities are available for students after college and what kind of colleges are available for masters and the fees structure in the top colleges etc, giving the students a better idea of the road ahead.
  • A Pre placement talk by Industry experts of Bonito design on 1st Feb, 2022, about what they look for in a candidate while selection, skills to develop to face the professional world, what are the opportunities provided to students studying in this field, what kind of work timings are expected and how deadlines are met at work were provided.
  • A very informative session by Thought Play Lab on 19th January, 2023 helped students understand how to put to use the education provided in the course to actual work at site and real practice. How to relate theory and practical, importance of education in shaping the future and how design subjects are extremely relevant and important in being able to handle client requirements. Importance of software knowledge and how it affects the speed of work in offices.

Webinar
  • Webinar on Realistic 3D Visualisation for Interior Designers was conducted by Ambarisha. B. on 13th October 2021.
Lecture Series
  • “Design Challenge in Interiors” was conducted by Ar. Vani Krishna Murthy on 30th October and 18th December 2021.
  • The first part of lecture students were enlightened on what how to choose a design project, how to do a case study for best design, understanding the anthropometry, ergonomics, space planning based on function aesthetics and psychology were given.
  • The expert talk progressed with topics on choosing the right interior materials, services, specification and estimation was given to students. This gave a clarity to students on how design projects are executed in Interior design industry.
Community Development Programme
  • As a part of the, the students of the IDM Department conducted a hands-on workshop on making paper bags by reusing newspapers and jute thread. These bags are eco-friendly alternative to plastic carry bags which cause a permanent harm to the nature. This was organized at the Niswan School for Girls, Cockburn Road, Shivajinagar on the 17th of March, 2021.
2020 - 21
Guest Lecture
  • Presentation on “Workspace Interior Design” by Ar. Nitin on 27th July 2019. Topics like Changing work patterns, Environmental awareness, and economic considerations relation to the office of the future were discussed and case studies were presented.
  • Guest Lecture on “Air Conditioning” was delivered by Ar. Sneha. S. on 13th October 2020. The lecture focussed on different types of ACs for different interior spaces, efficient use of the equipment based on appropriate placement, ducting, tonnage, etc. their maintenance were explained to students.
Workshop
  • Workshop on “Photography in Interiors” by Mr. Avishek Roy, organized on 27th February 2020. The event focussed on use of light and shade, shutter speeds, Aperture variations, filters to create aesthetically pleasing images of interiors.
Webinar
  • Webinar Series on was conducted on 29th & 30th June 2020. “Research Approaches in Interior design” Expert talk on topic “Principles in Qualitative Research” were given by Architect Dr. Mona Shah. The resource person talked in-depth on Qualitative research in interior design discipline.
    Architect Priya Shyam spoke extensively on the topic “Case study approaches for Interior spaces”. Various design projects executed by her were showcased to students.
  • Er. Ashish Pandya delivered the lecture on “WELL building standards – Workplace wellbeing”. This was an important talk as it focussed on importance of standards for interior design and building for resource efficiency.
2019 - 20
Career Guidance Program
  • Presentation on “Higher Education Opportunities and Career Guidance” by Ar. K. Anusha Srinivas on 11th January 2019. Students were enlightened on enrolling for higher education after course completion versus taking up work and vice versa in the field of interior design. Strategies to make a successful career were delivered.
Educational Trip
  • The department conducted a one day educational trip for IDM students to Chanakeshava temple, Somnathpur and Amba Vilas Palace, Mysore to understand the characteristic features and elements of Hoysala and Indo Sarcenic Architecture on 13th February, 2019. The trip was filled with excitement and joy for students.
Guest Lecture
  • Lecture on “Listing of heritage building” was conducted on 10th January, 2020 by INTACH, Bengaluru chapter. Awareness and cultural awareness on various heritage sites in Bengaluru was given to students. Importance of renovation, preservation and listing of heritage and historical buildings were addressed. Students were given the Performa needed to document and list the heritage buildings in Bengaluru.
2018 - 19
Guest Lecture
  • Presentation of “Architecture and Landscape Design” projects executed by Ar. Aditi Pai Heranjal, Ar. Akshay Heranjal and Ar. Nisha Bhatia was arranged on 11th January 2018. This was followed by a Q&A session where the guests answered questions about the design industry and job opportunities.
Workshops
  • Workshop on “Portfolio Preparation” and Interaction with Students was arranged with Mr. Trivic Milan, Domus Academy, Milan, Italy on 14th February
  • Workshop on Green construction technology by LSM, 6th March 2018. The students were showcased with various sustainable and eco-friendly materials, their workability and projects based on these materials.
  • Workshop on Adhesives by Pidilite Industries, 6th March 2018.

Placement Policy & Guidelines for Students

The Placement Policy is applicable to all students registered with the Placement Cell of Mount Carmel College, Autonomous, and is to be followed during their entire tenure at the college.

  1. The Placement Officer & the Placement Coordinator are the facilitators and counsellors for placement related activities and will be responsible for all concerned activities & functioning of the Placement Cell.
  2. The Student Placement Committee will be assisting the Placement Officer & the Placement Coordinator in all activities related to placements.
  3. Neither the College nor the Placement Cell guarantees a job. The Placement Cell will facilitate and coordinate the placement activities on campus including bringing in companies, coordinating the recruitment drives, organizing recruitment training and other related activities leading to the successful placements of the deserving students.
  4. Applying for a company, getting recruited, joining a company is entirely the responsibility/decision of the student concerned.
  5. Opting to register for placements is completely the choice of the students. As some would want to pursue higher studies or other opportunities, such students can refrain from registering with the Placement Cell.
  6. Students are required to check the ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA for registering with the Placement Cell before registering.
  7. All final year students with an aggregate score of 60% and above and with NO ACTIVE BACKLOGS are eligible to register for placements.
  8. All registered students are required to MANDATORILY attend the recruitment training conducted by the Placement Cell and meet the necessary threshold of 75% attendance and 80% completion of the practice tests & assessments to qualify for applying to the cos. Failing to qualify may result in re-training of the student at an additional cost which is to be borne at actuals by the concerned student.
  9. The Placement Cell will notify all the registered students about the upcoming recruitment drives through mails and Whatsapp group notifications and not individually. The students are to be alert and keep a track of the notifications and apply as per their interest and eligibility.
  10. Once a student registers/enrolls for a particular company, she is expected to complete the entire recruitment process as relevant and required. Failing to do so, will result in the student being debarred from sitting for further recruitment drives. Exceptions will be made at the sole discretion of the Placement Cell only in genuine cases. Such cases/reasons to be formally communicated to the Placement Office over mail at least one day prior to the drive.
  11. The student has a choice not to participate in the recruitment process of a company after attending the Pre-Placement Talk. If she decides to continue, then she will be bound by the College Placement Policy to attend the rest of the recruitment process of the company as stated above.
  12. Students will not be allowed to participate in the selection process of a company for which she has missed the PPT.
  13. While the Placement Cell will do its due diligence and bring in the right companies, it is the responsibility of every student to check the company profile, eligibility, Job Profile and the Job Role before applying. The same will also be mailed and/or updated on the Notice Boards or social media groups.
    • Ex 1- If a company requires the applicant to have an average of 70%, be well assured that you meet the criteria before applying to that company.
    • Ex 2- If the company requires you to have NO standing arrears/backlogs at the time of attending the placement process, kindly DO NOT APPLY to the company if you do not meet this criterion.
  14. If, after being selected by a company, for some reason the student is not satisfied either with the pay, the timings, work allotted, etc during onboarding, she will need to take it up with the concerned within the company. The Placement Cell will not be able to intervene in internal matters. However, it is important that the students reach out to us in case there are major deviations from the terms mentioned by the company at the time of recruitment.
  15. A student can apply to as many companies as she wants and appear for interviews until the first job is secured. A student will be considered to have secured a job if her name appears in the final select list of a company.
  16. The Placement Office of MCC follows a strict “ONE OFFER PER STUDENT” Policy. However, if a student has been offered a job with a CTC less than or equal to INR 2 lakhs PA, she can opt to apply for ONE more company, subject to prior formal approval by the Placement Office.
  17. Once a student’s name appears in the final selects of a company, it is obligatory for the student to accept the offer. Rejecting offers is strictly not allowed. Defaulters will be required to submit a letter to the Principal along with a penalty fee which could be equivalent to one month’s salary being offered by the said company.
  18. Recruitment Process: All companies generally follow the following procedure (however they could be exceptions) –
    • Presentation about the company & Job Profile (Pre-Placement Talk)
    • Written Exam (Aptitude / Technical Test)
    • Group Discussion and/or Task (Assignments)
    • Interview (Technical/HR/Others)
    • Verification of Documents
    • Offer Letter
  19. Students are to strictly ensure the following for all recruitment drives:
    • Must report on time as mentioned in the schedules
    • Wear Business Formals for every recruitment process. Students wearing casuals during recruitment process will be sent back
    • Always carry one folder containing resumes (2-3 copies), passport size photos, copies of mark sheets, certificates & stationery
    • Compulsorily carry College & Govt. ID Cards
  20. Most companies require applicants to have Govt. ID – Aadhar & PAN. Hence it is advised for all students to apply for these before registering for placements.
    Students are not allowed to contact the Company / HR team directly for any reason through the recruitment process. In case of any issues or concerns, they are advised to contact their Placement Office and discuss their problems.
  21. Strict action will be taken against students found to be engaged in maligning the College or the Placement Office with the companies. Any grievances you may have, are to be brought to the notice of the of the Placement Officer for resolution.
  22. If a student makes any false claims in the Resume/Student Registration Form, her registration will be cancelled immediately and job offer if any, will be revoked.
  23. All companies conduct a thorough background check/verification. If the company finds that you have manipulated your marks / documents in any manner/or mis-represented any information, your job offer will be terminated, and your name will be blacklisted.
  24. Strict discipline needs to be followed by every student during the recruitment process. Any sort of indecent behavior/misbehavior which affects the decorum of the Placement Cell or the reputation of the College or the Company, will attract severe penalty and disqualification.
  25. Unless explicitly permitted by the companies, use of mobile phones is strictly prohibited during the recruitment process.
  26. Malpractice in all forms or marking proxies during the selection process and beyond, is strictly prohibited and those caught indulging in such activities would be debarred from the placement process. Also, note that no concessions in any form shall be made in such cases.
  27. It may happen that the campus recruitment process can stretch till late evenings. Students are required and prepared to be available accordingly. In case of off-line drives, students are to inform their parents and should arrange their own transportation.
  28. In case of virtual (online) recruitment drives, it is the responsibility of the students to ensure they have the necessary equipment (laptop/PC with functional webcam and mic) and sufficient internet bandwidth for seamless conduction of the process.
  29. Students are required to provide correct email IDs and contact numbers at the time of registration. These will be used for all communication from the Placement Cell and the recruiting companies. The onus is on the students to ensure the contact details provided are correct and up to date.
  30. Students are advised to check their mails regularly as all communication related to placements will be sent through mails.
  31. It is mandatory that once you receive an Intent Letter/Offer Letter from the Company, a copy must be submitted to the Placement Office. Failing which, the end semester examination Hall Ticket/results will be withheld.
  32. All students registered for placements will be bounded by the Attendance Policy of the College. Any exception to the above is permitted only through formal approval of the Placement Office and the respective Department Heads.

WE EXPECT OUR STUDENTS TO BE PROFESSIONAL AND UPHOLD THE VALUES OF THE COLLEGE AT ALL TIMES.

For all matters not covered in the above policy, the Placement Office will use its discretion to take appropriate decisions as and when required.

The above guidelines are to ensure a smooth process in the best interest of our students and the participating companies.

Eligibility

  • Students who have completed Two Years Pre-University Course of Karnataka or Equivalent thereto in Commerce or Science are eligible to seek Admission to B.Com – Fintech and Digital Banking Degree Program. Additionally, students should have studied Mathematics or Statistics or Computer Science at the Pre-University Level.

Eligibility

A candidate who has passed the B.Com/BBA/BBM/BBS honors (4 years) examination of Bengaluru City University or of any other university in India or abroad recognized as equivalent thereto and has secured not less than 50% marks in the aggregate in all the four years put together shall be eligible for admission to the programme. In the case of SC/ST and Category-I of Karnataka candidates, the minimum percentage of marks required shall be less by 5%.
