Overview
Physics department was established in the year 1969 with a combination of (Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics).The department offered new combinations like Physics, Mathematics, and Electronics (PME) in the year 1986, and Physics, Mathematics, computer science (PMC) in the year 1989.NEP was implemented in the year 2021 with 3 combinations of Physics mathematics, Physics Chemistry and Physics computer science. Presently Physics Mathematics combination is being offered from 2022-23. Eminent and dedicated teachers constantly motivate and guide the students to face the challenges in life confidently.

Life oriented education that empowers women with scientific temper, analytical thinking, logical reasoning and application oriented study, to be the architect of transformation and development at different levels of life.

The department started with triple major courses as a part of the State education policy(SEP) in June 2024.
Activities
- The Department of Physics organized a guest lecture on “Solution to Mechanical Problems without Newton’s Laws” by Dr. Jayasheelan A, Associate Professor, Maharani Cluster University, Bengaluru, on 24 July 2025 for final-year B.Sc (PM) students.
- The Department of Physics organized a series of career counselling sessions titled “What’s Next After B.Sc?” on 31 July 2025 for first-year B.Sc (PMC) students. The session was delivered by Prof. J. Ramakrishna, Retired Professor, Department of Physics, IISc, and Bengaluru. It aimed to create awareness about opportunities such as IIT JAM and provided clarity on various career pathways in the field of Physics.
- The Department of Physics organized a field visit to “Electronica India and Productronica India 2025” at the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC), Tumkur Road, Madavara, on 19 September 2025 for VII Semester PCM students.
- The Department of Physics organized a career counselling sessions titled “Beyond Classrooms” on 20 Sept 2025 for final-year B.Sc (PM) students. The session was delivered by Prof. J. Ramakrishna, Retired Professor, Department of Physics, IISc, and Bengaluru. It aimed to create awareness about opportunities such as IIT JAM and provided clarity on various career pathways in the field of Physics.
- The Department of Physics organized a seminar on “Conscious Living”, aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being), on 8 December 2025 for B.Sc. Physics and Psychology students. The session was delivered by Dr. Manjula Yuvaraj, Founder of Mitra Foundation, Bengaluru.
- The Department of Physics contributed to the college’s Academic Outreach Activity as part of an Edufair held on 9 December 2025, aimed at engaging Pre-University students through interactive learning experiences by demonstrating scientific concepts.
- The Department of Physics organized a workshop on “Energy-Efficient Manufacturing of Functional Glasses for Sustainability” on 23 January 2026 for final-year B.Sc. PM students, in alignment with Sustainable Development Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production). The session was conducted by Dr. Renuka R, Associate Professor, Department of Physics, Global University.
- The Department of Physics organized a visit to Raman Research Institute on 9 February 2026 for members of the Physics Association. The visit inspired scientific curiosity among students and provided valuable insights into the pioneering work of C. V. Raman.
- The Department of Physics organized a Course Enrichment Programme on “Data Analytics for Physics Students” on 12 February 2026 for I-year B.Sc. PM and PMC students, aimed at enhancing their analytical skills and introducing them to the application of data analytics in physics.
- The Department of Physics organized a program titled “Voyage Through the Cosmos” on 19 February 2026, open to all MCC students. The session was conducted by Dr. Chrisphin Karthick, Scientist at the Indian Institute of Astrophysics.
- The Department of Physics organized a field visit as part of experiential learning to MI Technologies on 18 February 2026. The session was facilitated by Dr. Sunil Kumar (Retd.), VVIM, who provided students with practical exposure to industrial applications and real-world technological processes.
- The Department of Physics celebrated National Science Day by organizing the “Everything is Science: C. V. Raman Memorial Talk” on 25 February 2026 for B.Sc. and B.Ed. students. The session was delivered by M. K. Krishna, Advisor, Trainer, and Honorary Director at Dr. Rajkumar Eye Bank, Narayana Nethralaya. The programme enabled students to gain knowledge about the life and contributions of C. V. Raman
- The Department of Physics contributed to the School of Natural and Applied Sciences college event, National Science Day Exhibition – Sapienza 2026, held on 27 February 2026. The program enhanced scientific awareness among participants through engaging live demonstrations.
- The Department of Physics organized a workshop on “An Introduction to Quantum Computing” on 27 March 2026 for III-year B.Sc. PM students. The session was conducted by Dr. Ashwathaman H, Associate Professor, Department of Physics, Sapthagiri NPS University, Bengaluru.
- 27 June 2024 – Guest lecture on Applications of Lagrangian Mechanics delivered by Dr. Jayasheelan, Assistant Professor, Maharani Cluster University.
- 07 August 2024 – Guest talk delivered by Dr. Avinash Thumallapalli, Senior Medical Officer, Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology, Bengaluru.
- 13 August 2024 – Guest lecture on Principle of Uncertainty delivered by Dr. Wajeeha Sultana, Associate Professor, Maharani Cluster University.

- Model Lab to demonstrate some theory aspects like Polarization, Double Refraction, Super Position of Waves through models like Polaroid, Crystals, Ripples tank, etc.
- Visit to RRI, VITM and Nehru Planetarium every semester.
- The hands-on workshop was conducted by Prof. Sharmistha Sahu, Ex-HOD of Maharani Lakshmi Ammanni College.
- The following events were organized on the occasion of Cul Week 2020- The Physics association hosted a documentary screening about:
1) The Fascinating Physics of Everyday Life-Helen Czerski
2) The Effects Gravity Has on Space- Hubble’s Canvas The documentary screening.
3) Size and Scaling in Science The Physics Association organized a webinar talk by Shri H. R. Madhusudan, Senior Scientific Officer, Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium, Bangalore.
- The department of Physics actively participated in the workshop organized on 13.9.2019. Around 500 students of our college and 120 students from other colleges participated in the event. The apparatus purchased under DBT/star fund were exhibited.
- Visit to Visvesvaraya Industrial and Technological museum (VITM) Bengaluru ‘Vigyan Samagam’.
- Experimental demonstration in Mechanics by Ms.Sarmistha Sahu, Associate professor and HOD of department of physics.
- Night sky viewing-IDC at Visvesvaraya Industrial and Technological Museum (VITM),Bengaluru with Dr.Sujatha S, Director, M P . Birla Institute of Fundamental Research.
- Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research ‘INSPIRE – Science camp Scale of the universe and unsolved problems in Astrophysics 28th February 2019, National science day.
- Guest lecture on Material science High pressure studies on materials.
- Visit to Visvesvaraya Industrial and Technological Museum (VITM).
Highlights
- Conduct national level exams like National graduate Physics examination (NGPE), National Anveshika Experimental skill test ( NAEST), Research Education Advancement Programme (REAP). Internship programme. Science fest- intra college, intercollege and any other.
- Students were given projects on preparation and characterization of various thin films in thin film lab.
- Model Lab to demonstrate some theory aspects like Polarization, Double Refraction, Super Position of Waves through models like Polaroid, Crystals, Ripples tank, etc.
- Visit to RRI, VITM and Nehru Planetarium every semester.
