2. B.Voc (Analytics) – A three years UGC Sponsored Vocation (Degree) Course in Analytics

Year of Commencement – 2014

MCC is a pioneer in the country in offering this under graduate program. The course is conducted with the able assistance of professionals from various industries. The syllabus is structured to suit the present industry requirement.

The basics are covered in the first year. These form the foundation for understanding the applications of analytics in different domains, which is dealt with in the second and third years. Most of the course delivery is carried out by professionals from industries like Accenture, Dell, Citibank, Oracle, Walmart Labs etc.


  • Candidate seeking admission for B.Sc or the B.Voc (Analytics) courses should have passed the Pre-University or an equivalent course with Basic Mathematics / Business Mathematics / Applied Mathematics as one of the optional subjects.
  • Candidates taking Statistics as one of the subjects in the B. Sc. course should study Mathematics as another optional subject.

No. of Labs: Two, of which one is computer lab equipped with statistical packages.

V sem ST5 : Statistical Inference –II ST6 : Sampling Theory and its Applications
VI sem ST7 : Industrial Statistics and Design of Experiments ST8 : Operations Research
  • Some of the practical sessions are designed to expose the students to computer-aided data analysis.
  • Students are expected to solve numerical problems in Statistics using software like R, SPSS, MS EXCEL, etc.
  • The final year students of UG programme carry out sample surveys on topics of current and social interest. They go on field visits to get hands-on experience in applications of Statistics to various fields.

B.Voc (Analytics) – Overview

In the year 2013, an IBM Research study showed that 90% of the world’s data had been generated in the last 2 years alone! Data is the new asset and this is the era of “Big Data”.

Data sets, whether in Science and Engineering, Economics, Healthcare or Business has been growing so rapidly that a number of challenges arise with respect to analysis of this data and its use.

The ability to make use of this data depends heavily on the availability of a workforce that is trained and skilled to tackle this massive amount of data. The UGC, having recognized the need of the hour, has sponsored this program in Analytics.

Analysis of Big data requires cross-disciplinary skills ranging from foundations in Statistics, Economics, Mathematics, Computer Science/Machine Learning and Operations Research techniques.

The Department is correctly poised to offer this program by laying the foundations in traditional skills and supplementing them with newer skills such as Analytics tools and programming languages for Analytics.

Graduates of this program will be equipped with basic skills required to enter the “Data Science”/Analytics workforce. The program will focus on “foundation” + “skills” and exposure to tools and methodologies, which will prepare them for 21st century business challenges and data-driven decision making.


Some of the subjects taught in the B.Voc (Analytics) course are:

  • Statistics, Basic and Financial Mathematics, Economics, Econometrics, Business Communication, Business Environment.
  • Tools – Basic and Advanced EXCEL, SAS, R, MySQL , Python.
  • Digital Marketing , Digital Analytics, Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence, Data Base Management System, , Analytics for BFSI, Analytics for FMCG/CPG & Retail, Analytics for Health Care, Data Mining, Data Visualization, New Age Analytics….

The students are provided with an opportunity to intern in different companies. The course equips the students with enough tools to make a mark as an Analyst/ Data scientist, a good presenter and overall an industry ready person at the end of three years

Research Activities:

The department is involved in guiding students in their research projects. The projects handled over last 4 years are

  1. A study on the Impact of Religion and Literacy on Female-to-Male Ratio : A Case Study in Bangalore City.
  2. Methods of teaching adopted by school teachers in Bangalore city.
  3. A Study of Financial Inclusion in Bengaluru Urban and Rural.
  4. Generic Drug: A Road to Affordable Healthcare.
  5. Study on Non-Performing Assets of Banks in India.

Seminars, Guest lectures, Knowledge Sharing Programme between students of B.Sc and B.Voc(Analytics), Community Development Programme at Government Primary School , Involvement in Management funded research projects, Conduction of sample surveys on topics of current and social interests, Competition conducted during Fresher’s week, Cul-week, Cul-ah, Science week, E-week

Department Seminars /Conferences /Workshops:

  • Conducted a UGC sponsored National Seminar between 05thand 07thFebruary 2015 titled Applications of Statistics in Research, Planning and Industry.
  • Conducted a Data Analytics seminar on 16thFebruary 2017 titled “From Data to Insights”.
  • Conducted two day Faculty Development Program on Exploring the power of MS-EXCEL for the faculty of Mount Camel College.
  • Conducted one day workshop titled Effective use of MS – EXCEL in Administration for the administrative and library staff of Mount Camel College.
  • Conducted various workshops for students. To name a few
    • A one day workshop on Macro and VBA in EXCEL.
    • A two day workshop on Data Analysis Using R.
    • A one day workshop on Time Series Models.
    • A two day workshop titled Data Analysis using Python.
    • A one day workshop on Descriptive and Predictive Analytics using MS-Excel.

Department Library:

Department has a Library with around 160 books.

  • Students worked as interns with companies like HSBC, MasterMind Sports Ltd, Growth Foundation and Impact Analytics, Crafting Genius, Magikbox etc.
  • Some of our students are also placed at HSBC, 365media , AC Nielsen, Ernst and Young, Bleuming Technology Pvt Ltd, Enquero Globals, Core Providers, Ducker worldwide etc.
  • Students who opt for higher studies are placed in reputed institutions.
